last monday, while waiting for our lecturer michael, frida had her quick dinner in the lecture theater. she is one of my closest friend frm acheh. we had a quick but very interesting chat...

me: my great great grandparents are from palembang
frida: oh really
me: yeah....so my mum knew how to cook some of the palembang dishes...do u know empek empek and godam.
frida: i know empek empek...but never heard of godam
me: do u know the indonesian rest in kingsford that sell empek empek...i havent got a chance to try it yet
frida: no no....dont try it...its not nice
me: is it...but i like their spicy fried rice
frida: u want indonesian spicy fried rice...i can cook u one...very nicee. do u eat telor asin (showing her dinner to me)
me: yes...where did u get that?
frida: from white lotus (an oriental shop in kingsford)...and this...i like it so much...its a malaysian product (ikan bilis gamak nyer)

frida: i miss my home town. we usually have lontong for aidilfitri
me: yeah yeah...sometimes we had lontong too...put some serunding....very nice
frida: u have it with the rice cakes yaaa?? empat segi bentuknya...but sometimes they have it with the cylinder shape
me: (blur) erk...cylinder? what is it made from? the normal rice?
frida: no no...the sticky rice
me: owh...we call that lemang...had it with rendang

then suddenly naufal siting behind us join in:
naufal: are you guys talking abt foods?
me: yeah...thursday is the beginning of the fasting mth rite
naufal: confirm ya khamis?
me n frida: yes
naufal: do u know dendeng?
me: yes...daging nya di tumbuk kasar2 kan
naufal: ya...deng deng is frm padang (naufal asalnya padang ya ibuk ibuk)
frida: we were talking abt the similarities of our foods...acheh and malaysia..u know tempoyak with sambell...they have it too
naufal: i dont understand how u can eat something sweet with sambell
me: noo...its not sweet....its...erk its masam
naufal: masam? (dgn muka pelik dia)
frida: asem asem....kita sebutnya asemm
me: oo...asemm

then michael came and the class begin...
